Publishing Workshop with Robert Vaughan at Red Oak Writing

Join Robert Vaughan for his workshop, “Publishing Your First (or Next) Collection,” on April 26, 2014, 9:30am-12:00pm. Workshop description below:

How do you know when you are ready to send a collection to publishers? When is the right time, and is there such a thing? Do you have to stick to one genre or can it be a combination of several? Writer Alice Walker said, “It’s an awful feeling to write something that you feel is really important…and to feel that you’re being published by people who really don’t get it and/or don’t really care.” How can you avoid these pitfalls, and yet still take the leap?

In this workshop, Vaughan will share his experience with getting his first three projects (Microtones, Diptychs + Triptychs + Lipsticks + Dipshits, and Addicts & Basements) from his office desk into the hands of publishers who all agreed to bring his work to life. He will profile other independently published authors and ask pertinent questions to share with participants. Some grass roots fundamentals will be discussed, as well as reliable independent presses, writing contests, and techniques for building one’s own writing passion.
